Here's what I brought to class but didn't have time to go over with Tom. Thoughts?

  1. Tell me again your theme?

I like the layout and there is something very interesting about pasting the eyes over the characters. What are your intentions with the sketched eyes?

  2. Lauren, this "poster" is starting to speak. I wish the photos of panthers were more legible (Bigger), can you print this whole thing out 4x5 feet when you finish it? I have a place where we might be able to print out stuff? (anyone interested)

One issue I have with blogs, the thoughts don't go very deep, maybe that is the nature of a blog. But couldn't we have a drawing war (peace sit in?) on the themes that we are exploring?

Your piece feels tinted and b/w, and so nostalgic. I look and it looks back (esp. the top left eye)- it says WAKE UP! Then I fall back asleep for the rest. Can you wake me up? I still want you to do some of the things I suggested in my last comment, WAKE ME UP!

    Be well Tom

  3. @Chantra - The theme is perspective. On my first round of ideas after spring break i brought in pictures of the black panthers. I thought about looking at a person's situation through others' eyes. I but a black person's eyes over the police man and different ethnic eyes over member of the black panthers. if people were more empathetic and saw things from another point of view, maybe we wouldn't be so mean to each other?

The sketched eyes represented those people not directly in the environment -- family members affected by the actions of this paramilitary group, those lying in judgment of the group, etc.

  4. @Tom - I can plot this finished project @ 4x5. I will just have to check the resolution on pictures to make sure they are not too pixelated at that size.

Still trying to wake you up. Will be working more on that this weekend.

So, the face that I drew is of a cousin who was in a paramilitary group in the 70s, but I just cant seem to get it correct. I even found an FBI mugshot of him online, but its very obscured. I am not sure how to incorporate him into the piece.
